The inaugural Hort Connections conference and trade show, held by AUSVEG and PMA Australia-New Zealand Limited, brought the horticulture industry together at the Adelaide Convention Centre from the 15th to 17th of May. The event was a huge success, with thousands attending from across the supply chain.
As a major supporter, Hort Innovation had a strong presence at the conference: connecting to growers at the official Hort Innovation trade stand; cooking up tasty treats for patrons using Australian mushrooms, onions and sweet potato; bringing together a range of industry leaders at the inaugural Leadership Alumni Networking Event; and sponsoring a range of informative, inspiring and sometimes provocative guest speakers. The conference culminated with the Gala Dinner where Hort Innovation’s Craig Perring was nominated for Marketer of the Year, in recognition of the work on the onion industry’s levy-funded Secret Serve campaign.

One of the conference’s guest speakers, sponsored by Hort Innovation, was Scott Penn of SP Health. Many know Scott as the owner of the Manly Warringah Sea Eagles, but as founder of SP Health he is also dedicated to improving the lives of his fellow Australians through better nutrition. Hort Innovation recently commissioned SP Health, along with CSIRO, to produce the Fruit, Vegetables & Diet Score Report, to gain greater insight into the diets of everyday Aussies and their consumption of fruit and vegetables. Scott spoke at Hort Connections about the results of this landmark survey, and where to go from here.
