This report aims to improve Australian Horticultural competitiveness through an understanding of global standards of sustainability and non-tariff measures (NTMs). The goal of this report is to enhance the Australian horticulture industry’s insights into trends concerning sustainability-related NTMs by offering recommendations aimed at preserving the industry's competitive edge in global markets.
The number of NTMs impacting Australian horticulture is increasing, however NTMs can both restrict & facilitate trade. While Australia benefits from a trade environment that is relatively free from tariffs, supported by various free trade agreements, the increasing prevalence of NTMs has introduced several trade barriers. This project aims to uncover emerging NTM sustainability trends and determine their impact on Australian horticultural producers.
