What was it all about? 

From April to June 2023, this project delivered key insights into the storage and merchandising standards conducted at two major retailer Coles and Woolworths.

The project team visited 1,000 stores weekly to capture data and delivered key insights and trends to Hort Innovation, this included:

• Capturing data on how each store handles stock in the storeroom, including whether it is stored at room temperature or in a cool room.
• Measuring merchandising standards, including whether stock is hand stacked or tip filled.
• Monitoring availability standards by comparing stock on hand counts to stock counts in the system.
• Monitoring displays for consistency of green and yellow bananas being available for purchase, giving customers choice.
