A multi-target approach to fruitspotting bug (MT10049)

The overarching aim of this project, which ran between 2011 and 2016, was to allow for improved management of fruitspotting bugs, which are major native pests that affect a large range of fruit and nut crops in Australia. The goal was to investigate more strategic, long-term and sustainable management approaches than the current single-target approach using broad-spectrum insecticides.
Research was conducted into insect lifecycles; new and targeted chemical control; monitoring; trap cropping; pheromone traps; biological control; area wide management and more.
Findings were compiled into a 40 page handbook that is available to download from Hort Innovation.
This multi-industry project was a strategic levy investment in the Hort Innovation Avocado, Lychee, Macadamia, Papaya and Passionfruit Funds
