This project provides coordinated food safety and risk management support for the Australian mushroom industry. It focuses on helping mushroom growers and compost producers strengthen their food safety systems and respond effectively to emerging risks across production and the value chain.
The project is delivered by the Australian Mushroom Growers’ Association in collaboration with technical experts who have specialist knowledge of mushroom production systems. Activities focus on identifying food safety risks, supporting best practice management, and providing practical guidance that growers can apply on farm.
Key activities include the development and delivery of food safety services, targeted support for growers, and engagement with industry stakeholders to ensure consistent understanding of risks and responsibilities. The project also supports ongoing monitoring of food safety issues and the sharing of up to date information across the industry.
Outputs include guidance materials, resources and industry communications that support continuous improvement in food safety practices. By strengthening capability and awareness, the project helps reduce food safety risks, protect consumer confidence and support the long term sustainability and reputation of the Australian mushroom industry.
