An integrated pest, disease and weed management program for the Australian apple and pear industry
Project Code: AP16007
Status: New project
This new program was contracted by Hort Innovation in October to improve the ability and capacity of growers to develop and maintain pest-resilient farming systems using integrated pest management (IPM). It will provide clear knowledge on the tools and systems required to implement IPM, which involves the effective combination of chemical, cultural and biological methods to control pests, diseases and other undesirables in a ‘whole of system’ approach. It will also provide support in adopting these tools and practices.
Specifically, the project team will be responsible for revising the industry’s existing IPM Manual to put a greater focus on the integration of management practices that optimise monitoring and management of pests and diseases. Regional differences in pests and diseases will also be taken into consideration, with the project delivering region-specific guidelines and training for growers and advisors.

Apple and pear Strategic Investment Plan 2017-2021
The apple and pear Strategic Investment Plan (SIP) will help guide Hort Innovation’s oversight and management of investment programs for the apple and pear industry over the next five years. It lays the foundation for decision-making in levy investments and represents the balanced interests of the industry. The very important function of the SIP is to ensure levy investment decisions align with industry priorities.
The SIP was developed through a process of consultation, drafting, validation, stakeholder feedback as well as final approval by Hort Innovation’s Board. The process involved consultation meetings (detailed below) and online validation, giving apple and pear growers opportunity to provide input and feedback.
If you have any questions about the development process of the SIP, please contact Hort Innovation's apple and pear Relationship Manager, Mark Spees, by phone on 0439 574 173 or at firstname.lastname@example.org.
