Growing almond leaders (AL23003)
What is it all about?
This project is empowering emerging and aspiring leaders in the almond industry by equipping them with the knowledge, skills, confidence, and opportunities necessary to take on leadership roles. Through the development of a leadership course, the project will enhance industry capabilities and foster an innovative culture within the Australian almond industry, leading to sustained improvements in productivity and success.
Challenge
The Australian almond industry is facing challenges related to an aging leadership demographic and a lack of diversity at the leadership level. The Almond Strategic Investment Plan 2022-26 highlights a pressing need to strengthen industry skills and leadership through targeted training, leadership development, and a well-defined career pathway program.
Response
A comprehensive leadership program will be designed and developed, informed by a leadership needs analysis, specific to the Australian almond industry. Through the 12-month program, participants from across the almond supply chain will learn how to lead, manage and inspire others effectively, address current industry issues, and master key communication and leadership techniques.
The pilot program will launch in 2024 with an initial cohort of 6-8 participants. Following its successful implementation, the program will expand to reach three additional cohorts between 2025 and 2028.
Benefit
The leadership program is expected to significantly enhance leadership and management capabilities within the Australian almond industry. By fostering proactive, strategic, and evidence-based decision-making at both business and industry levels, the program aims to boost industry capability and develop an innovative culture. This, in turn, will encourage maximal investments in productivity and demand, contributing to the long-term sustainability and success of the industry.
