Avocado pest and disease technical workshop (AV22003)
What was it all about?
In 2023, this project hosted a two-day workshop to facilitate a discussion on key pest and disease challenges for the Australian avocado industry.
The first workshop was held online with more than 10 growers and industry representatives attending, and the second workshop was held in person with more than 20 researchers and consultants attending. Stakeholders involved in the workshop included avocado producers, representatives from Avocados Australia, Australian Produce Partners, state government research organisations, and the University of Queensland.
The workshop involved three areas of focus:
- Presentation of the current pest and disease issues facing the avocado industry.
- Discussion on what a successful research development and extension program looks like.
- Discussion on what is required to implement a successful research development and extension program.
After the workshop, a detailed report was collated and distributed among industry representatives for review and feedback. A copy of the report can be obtained from Hort Innovation upon request.
This project was a strategic levy investment in the Hort Innovation Avocado Fund
