Knowledge sharing and capacity building for future generations of turf producers (TU24002)
What is it all about?
This project aims to provide an annual event designed for the next generation of Australian turf producers, fostering leadership, professional development, and industry networking.
Challenge
As a family-business-dominated industry, many turf growers are in the process of developing succession plans. The success of these businesses depends on having informed, professional staff who are committed to continuous improvement and industry development. However, not all new entrants to the industry come from family businesses. Attracting and retaining skilled staff remains a significant challenge.
Response
The ‘NxGen’ program will emphasise collaboration, innovation, and strategic thinking, encouraging participants to engage with industry peers, explore new ideas, and develop problem-solving skills. The program will also offer year-round support through:
- Quarterly online workshops, webinars, and discussions to extend learning at both the farm and business levels.
- Ongoing networking opportunities to maintain social and professional connections within the group.
This structured approach ensures continuous engagement, skill development, and long-term industry growth.
Benefit
The program will foster a subset of turf producers who are eager to:
- Embrace strategic thinking and innovative solutions
- Engage and connect with industry peers to drive collaboration.
- Continuously improve farm and business practices.
- Identify new opportunities to enhance profitability and sustainability.
- Implement best-practice succession planning for both their business and the broader Australian turf industry.
By equipping participants with the skills, mindset, and connections needed for long-term success, the ‘NxGen’ program will contribute to a stronger, more innovative, and more sustainable industry.
