Market intelligence reports: Melon non-protocol markets (VM18005)
What was it all about?
Running from 2021 to 2022, this short investment delivered comprehensive market intelligence about key melon non-protocol markets to arm industry stakeholders with robust market insights to assist with their strategic decisions for trade development.
The project involved four levels of market analysis which were circulated via the industry website and melon e-news links.
- Monthly export updates – released monthly for 19 months (Jun 2020 – Dec 2021) based on ABS trade data outlined monthly performance of melons export by product (watermelons and musk melons) by market showing monthly and year to date trends against previous years for volume and overall prices.
- Quarterly Export Reports – released quarterly (June 2020 – June 2021, then December 2021) showing export performance on an annual basis with greater depth of analysis of volume, price and value trends over the course of 10 years to date, and insights to global trade trends showing Australia’s position and performance relative to competitors.
- In depth market reports – four reports were prepared involving interviews and analysis of the melon markets within targeted countries of interest – Japan, United Arab Emirates, Singapore and New Zealand. The reports considered the country demographics, market structures, melon import and distribution trends and insights from retail and food service interviewees regarding the acceptance of Australian melons in their markets.
- Global production and trade analysis – a report that summarised the global markets for melons and international trade flows including focus on six markets of interest to Australian exporters, including the four markets covered by the in-depth analysis.
