Cameron Mackay
Cameron has had a successful career as a horticultural producer, leading to senior industry roles, including 12 years on the board of the Australian Banana Growers Council, with two years as Chairman. He has also completed the Mt Eliza Produce Executive Program and has been a Member of The Australian Institute of Company Directors since 2009.
With extensive experience as a producer and company director, Cameron has a deep understanding of research and all aspects of running a vertically integrated business.
The family business was established in the Tully region almost 80 years ago, and Cameron is a third-generation member of the Board. After completing qualifications as an Engineering Tradesperson Mechanical, he joined the family business and, after five years of work in all aspects of the operations, progressed through a range of management positions.
Over the last 30 years, Cameron has been an integral contributor as the business has grown from a farm with 50 employees to a vertically integrated agri-business employing over 500 employees. The company now grows bananas, papaya, avocados, lychees, passionfruit, cocoa, and coffee.
His role has also involved significant contributions to research collaborations in Central America, as well as the development of sustainability programs within the Wet Tropics catchment of the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park, where the company operates.
