Variability in yield and quality is seen as one of the major challenges facing Australian cherry growers.
This project has been funded by Horticulture Innovation Australia Limited using the research and development cherry levy and funds from the Australian Government.
Researchers from the Tasmanian Institute of Agriculture (TIA) explored a number of strategies for managing the consistency of yield and quality.
It was the second phase of TIA’s research on the topic, and expanded to look at crop load management, the role of trees’ carbohydrate reserves, and fertigation and foliar application of micronutrients.
