Australia’s nursery and garden businesses produced $2.29 billion of green life in 2015/16, according to data released by Hort Innovation and NGIA.

The survey data was collected through Nursery Industry Statistics & Research (NY16004), a project seeking to provide a first-of-its-kind look into the industry’s social, economic and environmental contribution to Australian society.

The 12-month project included an extensive survey of over 200 production nurseries that operate across various scales and growing regions, and produce a diverse range of green life products.

This project is funded by Hort Innovation using the nursery research and development levy and contributions from the Australian Government. Hort Innovation is the grower-owned, not-for-profit research and development corporation for Australian horticulture. The project was managed by NGIA in partnership with independent research consultants, Down to Earth Research and ACIL Allen Consulting.
