Queensland citrus improvement scheme: finding better rootstocks for Australia (CT13004)
Publication date: October 30, 2018
Delivery Partner: The Queensland Department of Agriculture and Fisheries
Running from late 2013 to 2018, this investment bred and evaluated a range of new rootstocks, with the aim of giving Queensland citrus growers access to improved, superior options for growing high-quality fruit for consumers.
The work resulted in the commercialisation and release of one new rootstock for industry, dubbed Barkley. At the time of writing, a second promising rootstock was also in the final stages of testing. These rootstocks contain genetic material distinctly different from currently available rootstocks, which will expand the genetic diversity of the citrus industry and improve its resilience.
