What is it all about?
For horticulture, reliable and accessible water is critical to industry growth, profitability and long-term resilience, particularly as climate variability increases pressure on growers, supply chains and regional communities.
This investment supports horticulture’s involvement in the One Basin CRC, helping to connect horticulture industries with research projects to better understand future water availability, delivery constraints, water-use efficiency, climate impacts and opportunities for improved technology adoption.
Through collaborative research, industry co-design and technology development, the projects will help address key challenges relating to water availability, climate adaptation and irrigation efficiency, supporting the long-term sustainability and profitability of Australian horticulture.
The projects delivered through the One Basic CRC support the development and adoption of practical water and agricultural technologies that can help growers improve productivity, manage climate and water risks. While the work is demonstrated across the Murray-Darling Basin from Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria through to South Australia, many of the insights and solutions are expected to be relevant to irrigated horticulture industries across Australia.
