Access to new varieties for Australian nashi growers (NA22000)
What is it all about?
The project will deliver superior imported varieties that can be adapted to local climatic conditions by the Australian nashi industry.
The research team will negotiate the import of new nashi varieties with overseas partners. Post-quarantine entry will be organised once the varieties are imported according to Australian quarantine regulations. After the varieties are released from Australian quarantine, budwood blocks will be established at the NSW Department of Primary Industries at Dareton.
The project's progress will be communicated to nashi growers, stakeholders and value chain members through field days, seminars, workshops, and conference presentations.
An information package outlining ways to improve product quality and productivity will support these activities, thus enhancing domestic and future export market opportunities.
This project is a strategic levy investment in the Hort Innovation Nashi Fund
